Volunteering in Nottinghamshire

Can you help us make a real difference to someone in your local community?

We're currently on the search for volunteers to help enhance the life of other people in Nottinghamshire.

Roles currently available:

  • Community befriender
  • Telephone befriender
  • Marketing, promotion and events
  • Day centre supporter
  • Carers support group
  • Young carer group
  • Office and admin support

What's the role? What's involved (examples)?
Community befriender 
  • Chatting over a cup of tea 
  • Enjoying a walk in the park  
  • Accompanying someone to community events 
  • Being a companion on shopping trips 
  • Encouraging and assisting with gardening 

The list of support a volunteer can give to another person is endless!

Telephone befriender
  • Making phone calls to a person for a friendship chat
  • Checking on their wellbeing
  • Sharing happy experiences and hearing about their lives 
  • Giving a person something to look forward to 
Marketing, promotion and events
  • Promoting and raising the profile of our service 
  • Meeting new people and getting involved with the community  
  • Organising and marketing social and fundraising events
  • Gaining new skills, using existing talents and getting work experience
Day centre supporter
  • Chatting with clients, assisting and encouraging them to take part in and enjoy activities 
  • Assisting with lunch preparation for clients 
  • Assisting with washing pots and clearing the kitchen of items used by day centre 
  • Assisting with refreshments for day centre clients, staff and other volunteers 
  • Assisting with the setting up and clearing away items/equipment used by the day centre 
Carers support group 
  • Meeting and greeting carers with a positive smile 
  • Assisting with setting up and clearing away of events/activities
  • Assisting with refreshments 
  • Chatting to carers, listening and being supportive 
  • Encouraging others to take part in the group 
  • Respecting personal choice and lifestyles of colleagues and people with care needs, ensuring that equal opportunities are always applied
Young carer group
  • Meeting and greeting young carers with a positive smile 
  • Assisting with the setting up and clearing away of events/actvities
  • Assisting/joining in with activities
  • Chatting to young carers, listening and being supportive
  • Encouraging young people to take part in activities
  • Helping ensure events are safe and fun 
Office/admin support
  • Answering calls and assisting with enquiries 
  • Using Microsoft Office applications 
  • Assisting with interview and induction preparation 
  • Taking minutes of meetings 

Requirements

We're looking for caring people, with good communication and empathy skills.

Hours are flexible, but we ask for a regular commitment of two hours per week.

Free training and a DBS check will be provided.
