Respite for carers (Nottinghamshire and Nottingham City)

Our respite service is designed to help unpaid carers take breaks when it's needed.

What we do

Our respite service is provided on a flexible basis, whether it's needed for a few hours, days or weeks. We can also provide respite during emergency situations, ensuring that you and the person you're caring for are supported when you need it most.

Firstly, we'll speak to both the person being cared for and the person who has providing care – and invite you to talk about yourselves and your situation. Then, we'll draw up individualised plans for temporary care suited to your requirements.

We can provide respite to support unpaid carers who are caring for an adult with a range of health conditions and needs including (but not limited to) those who:

  • Are elderly or frail
  • Have a mental health condition
  • Have an issue with drugs and/ or alcohol
  • Have a learning and/ or physical disability
  • Have a life-limiting condition or are at any stage of a terminal illness

We are able to support cared-for persons from different ethnic backgrounds, cultures, and religions with culturally appropriate care.

If your cared-for person does not speak English we will try our best to match them with a respite carer who speaks their language.

If you aren't covered by one of these situations, we may be able to offer other services instead. For more information, please get in touch.

Funding and eligibility

Our respite service is provided for free to unpaid carers who care for an adult who lives in Nottingham City or Nottinghamshire, or who is registered with  a City or County GP.

  • To find out if you are eligible and how much respite you can access you need to contact the Carers Hub Service who will complete an assessment of your needs.
  • If you are eligible the Carers Hub Service will complete a referral form on your behalf and send it to us.
  • We will get in touch with you to discuss you and your cared-for person’s needs, draw up your plan for temporary respite care and get your respite booked in.
