A new service that aims to help unpaid carers improve their financial situation has launched in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan.

The Carers Financial Wellbeing Service, run by the charity TuVida, offers a small grants scheme alongside money advice for unpaid carers – who often face unique financial pressures because of their care role. A small team of specialist Financial Wellbeing Officers are employed to offer practical financial help and advice.

A carer is anyone who cares, unpaid, for a friend or family member who due to illness, disability, a mental health problem or an addiction cannot cope without their support.

TuVida Carers Grants Manager, Lisa Howells, said: “This service will help unpaid carers living in Cardiff and the Vale to boost their income and get to grips with their finances. Caring for someone can have a big financial impact and the benefits system is a complex one to navigate. Our team are on hand to help carers get what they are entitled to and make the most of their money.”
